General Information

The 4th Fair Trade International Symposium was recently held at Liverpool Hope Business School between the 2nd-4th April 2012. This event brought together researchers, Fair Trade practitioners, and all those who are interested in, and who wished to share their opinion and experience about Fair Trade. The objectives of the symposium were to present the most recent studies associated with Fair Trade, to share information about on-going and coming research projects, and to confront important questions about the future of the movement.

The symposium featured plenary sessions, parallel sessions, poster sessions and roundtables with practitioners. The main language of the symposium was English. Limited translation was provided for the plenary sessions, and a small number of workshops took place in French and in Spanish.

Researchers and Fair Trade practitioners who wanted to present a paper were requested to submit an extended abstract (5 pages) by 15 November 2011. The abstract should have included the topic addressed, the applied theory and methodology, the results obtained and the main bibliography. It should be noted that an invitation was made to those presenting at the conference to disseminate their papers in a highly rated international academic journal special issue. Participants were also given the opportunity to submit a 1 page abstract for poster presentations. The full version of the accepted papers/posters were submitted by 15 February 2011 to be included in the programme.
